Learning about Jesus through Parenting

Momming is teaching me so much about Jesus.  I think that all of my life I've thought that being a shepherd meant hanging out with the sheep while they wandered wherever they wanted to and protecting them if something bad came along.  As Annie grows up, I'm realizing that shepherding does mean protecting her but also means guiding her along the right path, nudging her away from what's not best for her so that she can learn to do what is best for her long-term, watching her become herself but putting boundaries around her in order to protect her and help her become the best version of herself.  And a moment ago I realized that that's what God does for us.  Yes, we have free will, but we're supposed to stay within his boundaries. However, just like Annabelle can circumvent the boundaries that we have up for her, we can too; but doing so for any of us is dangerous.  It is not because the parent's love doesn't reach that far.  Clearly God's love and protection are impenetrable, but when we cross the boundaries, we are no longer reaching for that love.  It is not the Parent that is walking away from us.  When we cross the boundaries, we are choosing to walk away from their love and protection. Yes I love hanging out with my little girl!  But it is so important for me to parent her by guiding her to the right path of trying her best, working hard, being honest, being kind, and being helpful rather than just let her do whatever she wants (usually play with her Kindle) whenever she wants to.  I feel so honored to have this job of caring for my special little girl, my blessing from God, His daughter who he adores so much!  Thank you God for this blessing and for showing me through this gift what you think of me, how much you love me, and how special I am to you and for teaching me more about you as I learn to take care of and love on our little girl!
